Gamtkwa Khoisan Council

The local Khoisan tribe that is indigenous to the Kouga area of the Eastern Cape elected the Gamtkwa Khoisan Council to represent them. Their main objectives are to protect, develop and to promote the heritage of the Khoisan people residing in the area. In order to achieve this, they are involved in a number of cultural projects to assist their community. The Council actively participates in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes as well as Heritage Impact Assessments (HIA’s) to ensure that the heritage of the Khoisan people is preserved for future generations. They also have a representative that has been elected by all the tribes in the Eastern Cape to serve on the National Khoisan Council to assist with the legal recognition of Khoisan communities in South Africa.

  1. Hi my name is Julio Snyers I am from East London in Eastern cape I would like to know more of our Khoisan history cos here by us is people more interested in positions than let the people know how rich history and culture how can I connect with the people who do the right things as around here our municipality think nothing of coloured people and we are excluded from everything it’s like we don’t exist cos I really would like for our people to stand up and be recognized but first I would like to know our history and culture cos we as coloured people must take our place in this circle of life in South Africa
